M.A.D.E. Finest from the Motherland: More Than Coffee, A Movement Rooted in Purpose.

Recently, we sat down with our friends over at M.A.D.E. Finest from the Motherland and had an in-depth conversation about their story, their origin, and plans for the new year and future ahead. After having tried their delicious coffee and hearing about the empowering story about an emerging Black-owned business in the heart of Coffee Land (Pacific Northwest), we knew we had to get their story out there. The owners, Shamsa and Matthew were kind enough to allow us an insider’s scoop into their lives, daily schedule, preparations for markets, and more. They personify what it means to be a power couple at the head of a loving family and community.

M.A.D.E. Finest was born from a simple but powerful idea: coffee should do more than wake us up, it should uplift communities, honor origins, and build legacies. What began as a passion for quality coffee has grown into a purpose-driven brand committed to ethical sourcing, cultural pride, and community empowerment. At its core, M.A.D.E. Finest is about intention. Every bean tells a story. Every cup represents a connection between farmers, roasters, and consumers who believe that excellence and equity can, and should, coexist.

Their Story

M.A.D.E. Finest emerged from a deep respect for the land and the people who cultivate it. The founders and owners Shamsa and Matthew Diahn, who originate from East and West Africa, cultivated a love story that transcends the ordinary. Inspired by African coffee-growing regions and the generations of labor behind every harvest, they created M.A.D.E. Finest from the Motherland to spotlight origins that are often overlooked while challenging the norms of the global coffee industry. Growing up in Oregon, they saw firsthand the booming market for the industry and noticed something was missing. With this mind, they worked hard to bring quality and delicious coffee to the Pacific Northwest and also ship worldwide. Rather than separating product from purpose, M.A.D.E. Finest weaves them together. The company prioritizes relationships over transactions, transparency over trends, and long-term impact over short-term gains. From Rwanda and Kenya to Uganda and beyond, M.A.D.E. Finest sources beans with care. Recognizing that quality begins long before roasting ever starts.

What Makes M.A.D.E. Finest Unique?

What sets M.A.D.E. Finest apart is not only the richness of its roasts, but the values behind them. The brand is intentionally small-batch, hands-on, and community-focused. Each roast is thoughtfully developed to honor the bean’s natural profile. Bringing forward bold, smooth, and distinctive flavors without compromising integrity. Introducing beans from East and West Africa to the Pacific Northwest and other parts of the world that are missing out on this taste was only half it. Beyond taste, M.A.D.E. Finest is committed to ethical sourcing and storytelling. The company and team amplifies the voices of growers, highlights the labor behind the cup, the women that craft the beans with love, and works toward systems that support ownership, sustainability, and dignity for producers—particularly women and marginalized farming communities.

M.A.D.E. Finest is not just selling coffee; it is redefining what conscious consumption looks like.

Their Mission

The mission of M.A.D.E. Finest is to create exceptional coffee while building pathways for economic empowerment, cultural connection, and social impact. They believe that access to resources, opportunity, and ownership should not be a privilege reserved for a few.

Through its work, M.A.D.E. Finest aims to:

  • Champion ethical and transparent sourcing

  • Support women-led and community-owned initiatives

  • Educate consumers on where their coffee comes from

  • Use coffee as a tool for connection, storytelling, and change

Every decision, from sourcing to branding to partnerships, is guided by the belief that impact is strongest when it is intentional.

Looking Ahead

As M.A.D.E. Finest continues to grow, its vision remains rooted in sustainability and scale with purpose. Future plans include expanding origin partnerships, introducing new roasts and limited editions, and investing directly in infrastructure and training that allow farming communities to thrive independently.

The company is also building opportunities for collaboration: inviting supporters, donors, and partners to be part of a larger movement that goes beyond coffee. Whether through community markets and events, educational initiatives, or hands-on experiences, M.A.D.E. Finest is creating spaces where people can engage with the mission in meaningful ways. Most recently, they’ve announced that they are looking for a Volunteer Project Manager from the community. This role will come with exceptional incentives that include hands on roasting experience, free coffee bags, early access to events and markets, and much more. M.A.D.E. Finest stands for something bigger: proof that business can be bold, ethical, and deeply human. It is a reminder that what we consume matters, and that with intention, even a daily ritual like coffee can help shape a more just and connected world. Small businesses like M.A.D.E Finest are at the heart of community and what it means for a village to work and thrive together. This is M.A.D.E. Finest. Drink boldly. Build intentionally. Create impact, one cup at a time.

We’re honored to have heard their story first-hand and have the chance to amplify their voice and mission. We highly encourage you to check them out and support their growth. After all, it takes a village.
